Grey Squirrels

Squirrels are 35 to 53cm in length and weigh around 550 to 750g. They have grey-brown fur.

They are mainly found in mixed woodland, and in the autumn in hedgerows, gardens, and fields away from woods.

They damage tree bark, particularly sycamore and beech.

Control:
Thoroughly blocking up any likely holes and gaps will help prevent squirrels from entering buildings, but only if it is done properly. Much like rodents, their front teeth grow throughout their lives; only frequent gnawing keeps them at the right length. They do not discriminate and they can gnaw through electrical cables in loft spaces.

They become a pest when they enter buildings and nest in loft insulation.
